His 1st flight out

We had a short holiday in Penang during the Wesak break and we took a flight out with my father-in-law and sister-in-law. We stayed in Gurney Hotel and I'm impressed with the layout (we took 2 rooms suite) and it was money worth spend. Cheap, 4 star facilities and spacious! And yes, we had a good view which is sea facing! I will definitely stay there again.

It was my FIL 1st trip to Penang and Zach's too (of course he's too young to tell..hahaha) and we did some touristy visit to the famous temple. We went to Kek Lok Si, Sleeping Buddha and Siam Temple. As usual, when we are in Penang we had good time with the local fares and all our eating schedule goes haywire. Meaning, no lunch or dinner time. We just eat like a glutton. Gorble down asam laksa, lobak, char kuay teow, chee cheong fun, prawn mee, otah, and the list goes on.

We visited the temple on our 2nd day
It was a hot day and we were sweating like leaking tap. Zach had his share too and I found a small little pimply thing behind his neck fold. We had blessing from the monk there and as usual I always wish for good health, happiness and safety for everyone.

2nd pit stop was the Kek Lok Si temple. I can’t re-call when was my last trip there. I was curious to see the changes as I hear about the new elevator which brings you up to the Goddess of Mercy. Glad we took the esclator before I’m out of breath, carrying a 8kg baby up the stairs is no joke :p.

We reached the top in less than 5 minutes and I can’t recall a temple there and it has a nice park and manmade waterfall. The place was serene and cooling. We took a break there and change diaper for Zach on the grass :p

I find this bench rather cute. They have all kinds of animals ranging from pig, dog, rabbit…
Here’s Zach with his gong gong and posing beside him is his good friend.

Food Production

As per my previous post, I'm in the mood to make my own baby food. Making your own baby food or puree is so much healthier than the one you buy off rack from supermarket. Also, making your own will taste so much better than those you buy, which I feel the water content is 80% more than what you are getting.

Anyway, I do confess that I still buy them occassionally for travelling purpose which is so much convenient and handy.

Here's what I make today in bulks and I store them in freezer for days/weeks. So, each time I need them I just pop them out and warm them in the food warmer. Within 10mins Zach will have his dinner ready.

Making your own baby food/puree takes as little time as you can imagine. I took 20 mins from peeling, washing, steaming and pureeing them. Best of all, there's no sweat in washing.

I decide to make carrot + corn + apple. Here's what I did...

Peel the carrot and apple skin. core the apple and cut them in small bite size. Corn, you can just steam as it is and use butter knife to scrap them off.

Next, put all of them in a steamer and steam them for good 10mins.

While steaming get ready the blender and once ready, pour all into the blender and start blending! The water collecting from the fruits, carrot and corn can be used for thinning the puree

Here's how the puree.

Store them in baby cubes or another way is in ice tray, but becareful in storing in ice stray as you do not want to contaminate it. So cover well. After transfering them into the baby cubes, store them straight away in the freezer to avoid bacteria grow. To store them in refrigerator, you can keep them for 2 days max.

And voila! I have days/weeks of food supply for Zach. No rushing home to cook or preparing dinner for him. Don't you think is fun?

Food Adventure #2

Since Zach started on solid I had introduce a few new food every now and then. Since he is above 7mths, I am getting more adventurous these days..*tsk tsk*...

What's that, Mummy?

Eewww...
bleah...

You must be wondering what I gave him today? This is what I bought from Cold Storage. Cheddar Cheese and Baby Yoghurt!

Thought he might like it since Mummy loves cheese and yoghurt. But guess Mummy has to finish all these...*tsk tsk*...

Here's a little entertainment of him having his cheese :p

Hearty Breakfast

I was in the mood to cook my own breakfast and also Zach decides to wake me up early and I can't go back to sleep after that. So, I thought of preparing an early breakfast while hubby is still sleeping.

The night before, I decided to make my very own burger using mince pork to make my own pattie. I seasoned it with some spices using my own creation. Little did I know that this turn out awesome! hehe...self praise abit here. Those who are interested in my recipe, don't mind sharing it with you. But it's easy to make, just a dash of everything you have in your cupboard hehehe....

Anyway, allow me to share with you my home made burger. This is how I like my burger to be....

Food Adventure

I have gone crazy making baby food! Infact I bought a book call Super Baby Food by Ruth Yaron to tells me everything I should know about feeding Zach from baby to age 3. Is a little pricey but worth the money.

Being a 1st time mother, you want to give the best to your child and you also want to make sure your child is getting the proper diet/nutrients. But of course, some say look at us and all of us grow healthy the way our mom feeds us. They don't need a book to feed us. Anyway, to me it does make sense as I'm a walking testimony, hahaha...But of course, to make things more interesting than the boring everyday porridge you would like to create or make something interesting for your baby or toddler. I'm sure they will be bored eating porridge, fruits, cereals.....

Here's a pic of the book, it's the 2nd edition. The 1st edition has been sold out so I thought the 2nd edition will be as good as the 1st.

I think this book is good for "Idiot Mom" like me . I didn't know we can mix grains like barley, brownrice, millets and cook them together to make super porridge! Millets are good for baby as they are high in protein.

Also, this book gives out good range of food to feed your baby/toddler on types of food. I had tried baby yoghurt and cheddar cheese on Zach. I'll post a seperate blog on this. I love trying new food to Zach as baby tastebud are different from us. So, giving them new taste will create fun and exciting to them :). You will know what I mean in my next blog.
